SMOOVE Universal Chain Lube
NEW - Luberetta applicator head on every bottle from March ‘23.
All weather, super high mileage, drivetrain protecting chain lube. SMOOVE is the BEST chain lube you will ever use.
SMOOVE takes the best elements of wax-based chain lubes and combines them with the best parts of oil-based lubes without the negatives.
SMOOVE is specifically formulated to go hundreds of miles between applications while remaining smooth, quiet and ensuring a longer life for your drivetrain. Singletrack magazine achieved the Lands End to John O'Groats road ride on a single application. That's 890 miles! CLICK HERE to read the review.
Off-road, SMOOVE is also market-leading. 300-600 miles is achievable through a mixture of terrains and during a harsh water-logged British Winter, makes 150-250 mile epics a total breeze.
Do not confuse SMOOVE with any other chain lubricant. Applied correctly and SMOOVE is the best chain lube on the market for any discipline, in any weather.
- Huge mileage between applications: Your epic ride partner or ultra-low maintenance solution
- Very clean: Hundreds of miles in, your drivetrain will be noticeably cleaner. Dry to the touch and shifting like it had just left the work stand
- Longer lasting Drivetrains: SMOOVE is ultra-robust. Not only will it not wash off during a muddy ride, but it will extend the life of your drivetrain by up to 124%
The performance of SMOOVE Universal Chain Lube requires correct application. Follow these steps to ensure you experience what we say above. If it's not the best chain lube you've ever used, you're not using it right! So what should you use to degrease your chain? SMOOVE Prep of course.
Step 1 > Apply SMOOVE to a clean dry chain (do not use white spirit or petrol to clean as a residue is left behind. A strong degreaser is required such as SMOOVE Prep
Step 2 > Apply on the inside of the chain while turning the pedals to ensure that the lube gets worked into the chain. Keep applying as a constant dribble until you see lube spanning the pins between every other link.
Step 3 > Now keep pedalling the chain backwards 15-20 times to ensure it's totally worked in. Test the chain by pinching the side of the chain between your fingers and lightly twisting. you should see lube being pushed out from behind the plates.
Step 4 > Leave to dry for at least an hour. Best results are achieved if lube is applied the night before.
Step 5 > Do not wipe chain after application.
Step 6 > Too much lube will cause residue to accumulate around the derailleur pulley wheels and cassette. It is common for riders to assume SMOOVE has worn off and apply more lube before it's required. Break your habit and only reapply when the chain 'sounds' dry.
FAQ's
Can I 'top-up' my chain with SMOOVE without fully degreasing it every time?
Yes you can. It is imperative the first application is done to a completely clean and dry chain. Then you can top up when you're chain begins to run dry. But remember not to over-applicate too often. It doesn't need it and a waxy build-up can occur.
My jockey wheels and chainring have a build up of gloop and wax on them.
You've applied too much SMOOVE. Probably by reapplying too soon or over-applying in the first instance. Wipe away the excess gloop very lightly with a dry cloth and keep riding. It will soon bed in.
My chain is rusty after applying SMOOVE and going for a wet ride/washing my bike.
SMOOVE goes exactly where you put it, unlike oil which goes EVERYWHERE. Applying SMOOVE as per the above instructions means the outside of the chain plates and some areas within may not be covered in lube. But they don't need to be. Only metal touching metal needs to be lubricated. SMOOVE is a premium lubricant and so typically will be used on a premium chain made of stainless steel. The rust you're seeing is because your chain is not made of stainless and instead regular steel. Because certain areas of your chain were not covered by SMOOVE, some surface rust colour is evident. Don't worry, this doesn't mean your chain is not lubricated. To solve this, during application pinch the side of your chain between thumb and index finger before gently back-pedalling to ensure a through coat of lubricant.
If you are seeing orange rusty colour seeping from within your chain after washing, it's because you did not work SMOOVE in well enough in the first instance and/or didn't allow it to set thoroughly enough.
Is SMOOVE basically the same as Squirt, White Lightening, Ice Wax, Finish Line Wax and other wax-lubes?
No. Other lubes may look the same when out of the bottle, but dab SMOOVE on your finger nail and feel the viscosity. SMOOVE is unique, the bench-mark in chain lube performance and unlike anything else on the market.
